The School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (CSB), Philippines, in partnership with York University, Canada, launched a pioneering collaboration through a workshop on Globally Networked Learning (GNL) held online on September 18, 2023. The initiative marked the beginning of a strategic academic partnership between the two institutions, focusing on developing GNL-based programs that promote alternative and inclusive learning modalities. The workshop served as a platform for faculty members and students from both universities to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange perspectives, and co-create learning opportunities within a culturally diverse global setting.
GNL, as an emerging educational approach, connects classrooms across borders through technology-enabled collaboration and shared teaching methodologies. This modality enables students and educators to engage in joint projects, discussions, and problem-solving activities that promote intercultural understanding, innovation, and global citizenship. During the workshop, participants explored ways to integrate GNL principles into existing courses and programs, emphasizing the value of intercultural collaboration, digital pedagogy, and inclusive practices in higher education.
This partnership between SMIT and York University reflects a shared commitment to educational excellence and internationalization. By bridging academic communities from the Philippines and Canada, the GNL initiative embodies the vision of building connected learning environments that prepare learners to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and culturally diverse world.
