Race Against Suicide: A Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention in Schools

Together with UNILAB Foundation and the Department of Education and the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM),  Faculty and Staff Members participated in the Race Against Suicide Training.  The program aims to equip educators and school personnel with the necessary skills to recognize, assess, communicate, and entrust (RACE) learners at risk of suicide to professional help.

Key aspects:

Recognizing the warning signs of distress and unusual behavior.

Assessing suicide risk using an evidence-based scale (Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale screen version).

Communicating effectively or convincing the learners to get help.

Entrusting the individual to a school counselor or a mental health professional for management and referral.
