Exchange Students Experience Filipino Culture Through Villa Escudero Immersion

As part of its commitment to providing meaningful cultural experiences, the Center for External Linkages (CEL) of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde organized an acculturation activity for its international exchange students on October 27, 2024, at Villa Escudero, one of the Philippines’ most iconic cultural heritage destinations.

The trip brought together ten exchange students who were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in Filipino history, art, and traditions. The group explored the on-site museum, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts and memorabilia that trace the country’s rich cultural evolution. A highlight of the visit was a vibrant cultural show that featured traditional dances and music from various regions of the Philippines, offering a vivid window into the nation’s diverse heritage and performing arts.

Beyond cultural discovery, the students also enjoyed a series of recreational activities including swimming, kayaking, and the unforgettable experience of dining beside a cascading waterfall—a signature feature of Villa Escudero’s famed restaurant. The day served as both an educational journey and a joyful celebration of Filipino hospitality, nature, and artistry.

Through initiatives like this, Benilde continues to ensure that its international mobility programs go beyond the classroom—creating spaces where learning is lived, cultures are shared, and friendships are formed. The acculturation activity not only deepened the exchange students’ appreciation of Filipino culture but also embodied Benilde’s vision of fostering global citizenship through experiential learning.
