Deaf Awareness Orientation for Educators

CFAd-Instruction Unit conducts the Deaf Awareness Orientation (DAO) for Educators, a two- to three-hour training program that helps hearing individuals better understand and connect with the Deaf community. The session provides firsthand exposure to Filipino Sign Language (FSL) and the Filipino Deaf culture, fostering empathy and inclusion. Participants learn about respectful communication, appropriate terminology, and common misconceptions about deafness. Guest speaker, Mr. Ferdinand Vizmanos also covered relevant laws, disability perspectives, and practical tips for working and engaging with Deaf individuals. By promoting awareness and understanding, the DAO empowers educators and professionals to create more inclusive environments where every individual can learn, communicate, and thrive.
