The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) partnered with the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help for an event held on September 17, 2023, at the shrine. The activity was attended by 26 hearing participants, 15 Deaf participants from public schools, and two SDEAS volunteers. A Deaf Awareness, Sensitivity, and Basic Filipino Sign Language workshop was held in Baclaran Church as part of Deaf Awareness Week. The SDEAS volunteers, under Mr. William Sidayon’s leadership, facilitated it. The workshop aimed to educate the volunteers and devotees of the Baclaran Church about Deaf culture and promote understanding of the challenges faced by the Deaf community.

Through interactive activities and practical lessons in Filipino Sign Language, attendees gained valuable insights on effective communication with Deaf individuals and how to create a more inclusive environment for them. The workshop received positive feedback from participants, who expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow in their understanding of the Deaf community.
