The Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) conducted an assessment of Benilde Deaf School (BDS) faculty from June 2023 to February 2024 to analyze the teaching strategies and classroom practices of both Deaf and hearing teachers. The study examined how these strategies align with learner-centered, Deaf-centered, and bilingual education approaches, involving six faculty members and three groups of Grades 7–10 students.
The project produced six faculty interviews, three focus group discussions, and two meetings to present emerging themes and preliminary results. Findings will inform the continued development of Deaf-centered teaching practices at BDS.
Through research, assessment, and evidence-based interventions, CEAD continues to strengthen instructional quality and support Deaf learners’ academic success. This initiative is part of the Model Learning Institute on Deaf-Centered Education (MLITEDCE), made possible through a grant from The Nippon Foundation of Japan.
