CEAD Develops Curriculum Based Test Aligned with DepEd’s MATATAG Curriculum

To strengthen evidence-based practices in Deaf education, the Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) developed a curriculum assessment instrument aligned with the Department of Education’s MATATAG curriculum. This initiative reflects Benilde’s commitment to advancing Deaf-centered bilingual learning, ensuring that Deaf learners have equitable access to quality and inclusive education.

The project began with an item writing workshop, where participants explored best practices and effective methods for designing and reviewing curriculum-based tests. It was followed by item writing sessions for Mathematics, Science, and English subjects for Grades 7–9 students. Conducted from November 2023 to October 2024, the project engaged one consultant, three item reviewers, and nine item writers, producing nine tests with 40 items each—a total of 360 reviewed test items—and included six consultation meetings on test development.

Through research, assessment, and test development, CEAD continues to address academic challenges faced by Deaf learners. Outcomes from these initiatives are transformed into accessible learning tools and resources that empower educators and institutions to strengthen Deaf education across the Philippines.

This initiative is part of the Model Learning Institute on Deaf-Centered Education (MLITEDCE), made possible through a grant from The Nippon Foundation.
