Benilde and Game Developers Association of the Philippines Forge Five-Year Partnership to Advance Game Design Education

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, through its School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT), took a bold step toward shaping the future of the Philippine game development industry by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) on October 3, 2024, at the Atrium @Benilde.

The five-year agreement establishes a strategic framework for collaboration between Benilde and GDAP—marking a historic milestone as Benilde becomes the first and only academic institution to formalize an MOU with the association. Both organizations share a common goal: to elevate the standards of game design education and nurture a new generation of world-class Filipino game designers, developers, and creative innovators.

The MOU was signed by Mr. James Lo, President of GDAP, and Mr. Benhur Ong, Chancellor of Benilde. The partnership outlines a range of initiatives including joint curriculum development, industry immersion, mentorship, and skills certification programs that align with global standards. One of the key components of the collaboration is the CGARTS certification, an internationally recognized credential that may serve as a micro-credential under Benilde’s Game Design and Development (GDD) program. This certification aims to strengthen students’ professional portfolios and support the growth of game design start-ups within the Benildean community.

Through this alliance, GDAP and Benilde commit to fostering a vibrant ecosystem where education meets industry innovation—bridging academic excellence with real-world application. The partnership promises to open new opportunities for aspiring game designers to gain industry-relevant skills, global exposure, and entrepreneurial experience in one of the country’s most dynamic creative sectors.

As Benilde continues to lead in the fields of creative technology and digital media, this partnership reaffirms its mission to champion innovation, inclusivity, and excellence—empowering Benildeans to make their mark in the global game design arena.
