De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) is taking another step toward strengthening its technology-driven education as representatives from the Center for External Linkages (CEL) and the School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) met with officials from ArcGIS last July 15, 2024, via Zoom. The meeting explored how Geographic Information Systems (GIS)—a powerful tool for spatial data visualization and analysis—can be integrated into Benilde’s academic and professional development initiatives.
Two major points of collaboration were discussed:
- Integration and utilization of ArcGIS in SMIT courses – enabling students to gain hands-on experience with spatial data tools and applications relevant to business analytics, information systems, and management programs.
- Development of a micro-credential program – offering students an opportunity to earn industry-recognized certification in GIS upon completion of related coursework or training modules.
Beyond academic integration, both parties also explored the potential for an institutional partnership between Geodata Systems and Benilde, which would formalize collaboration in several key areas such as student internships, resource sharing through guest lectures and workshops, and faculty capacity-building programs to strengthen GIS expertise within the institution.
The discussion highlighted the shared vision of Benilde and ArcGIS in equipping students and educators with cutting-edge digital skills and global competencies. As the partnership progresses, this initiative is expected to bridge academic learning with real-world data applications, preparing Benildeans to thrive in the growing field of geospatial technology and data-driven decision-making.
