De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) continues to deepen its international academic partnerships through a promising meeting with the National University of Singapore (NUS) held on June 20, 2024. The discussion focused on building concrete initiatives that will foster academic exchange, research collaboration, and global learning opportunities.
Representing Benilde were Architecture Program Dean Harvey Vasquez, Program Chair Ven Quizon, Vice Chancellor for Academics Angelo Lacson, and Center for External Linkages (CEL) Director Sherlo Reyes. They met online with Professor Cheah Kok Ming, Assistant Head of the NUS Department of Engineering, to explore the next steps following Benilde’s benchmarking visit to NUS in March 2024.
The meeting centered on identifying areas of synergy between Benilde’s Architecture program and NUS Engineering, with both institutions expressing enthusiasm for creating meaningful academic exchanges. In the immediate term, both parties agreed to collaborate on several initiatives, including a summer camp program, online speaking engagements between faculty members, attendance at NUS public online events, and the opportunity for a Benilde faculty member to pursue graduate studies at NUS.
Looking ahead, discussions also touched on medium- and long-term collaborations, such as student exchange programs and visiting professorships, which would further strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two institutions.
Both parties agreed to reconvene in a month once the Program Head of NUS Engineering returns from international engagements, signaling a strong commitment to move these plans forward.
This developing partnership with NUS underscores Benilde’s dedication to global academic excellence and its mission to prepare students and educators to engage with the world’s leading institutions. By fostering collaboration with top universities like NUS, Benilde continues to build bridges that connect creativity, innovation, and scholarship on an international scale.
