A team of Deaf researchers from Benilde’s Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) joined the Benilde Writers Workshop on Copyright and Book Publishing, organized by the Center for Intellectual Property Management (CIPM) and held on campus recently.
The workshop equipped the CEAD–Model Learning Institute on Deaf-Centered Education (MLITEDCE) team with essential knowledge on copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and publishing processes, empowering them to protect their creative works and navigate the publishing industry with confidence.
In line with CEAD-MLITEDCE’s mission to advance Bilingual-Bicultural Deaf education through literature, researchers Maricris Galang and Lawrence Jericho Tilokano are developing Deaf Heritage and Deaf Life Stories, while Nathaniel Macariola is working on the FSL Grammar and Dictionary. Macariola is receiving guidance from CIPM Director Janice Tejano for his publishing project at Benilde HIFI.
The inclusion of Deaf researchers underscores CEAD-MLITEDCE’s commitment to diversity, accessibility, and inclusivity, ensuring Deaf voices are recognized and represented in the publishing industry.
