On February 23, 2024, the School of Management and Information Technology – Analytics, Computing, and IT (SMIT-ACI) Cluster held the first episode of SMIT TechTalk Series Season 2, titled “Beyond the Screen: Unraveling Your Digital Legacy.” The session was conducted by Mr. Ricson Singson Que, Program Coordinator of the Cybersecurity Program, and explored the emerging concept of the digital afterlife—what happens to one’s online presence, data, and digital assets after death.

As society becomes increasingly digitalized, the topic has gained significant relevance, intersecting the fields of cybersecurity, ethics, and digital rights management. Mr. Singson Que discussed issues surrounding data ownership, account access, and posthumous identity management, highlighting the importance of planning and protection for one’s digital footprint. The talk also encouraged attendees to reflect on privacy, consent, and security in a connected world where digital existence often outlives physical life.

Faculty members, students, and guests from the School of Management and Information Technology attended the event and participated in an engaging discussion on digital legacy and responsibility. The session exemplified the SMIT-ACI TechTalk Series’ goal of deepening awareness of current and future issues in technology, while promoting responsible digital citizenship and ethical innovation.
