Elevating Game Art and Quality: Benilde’s March 2023 Workshops

On March 15 2023 from 09:30 to 11:30, the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde (Benilde)-IEMC unit held an Environmental Concept Art Workshop online via Zoom, led by Lamberto Ongkingco Jr.. This session brought together IEMC students, faculty, and external guests to deepen their skills in crafting immersive game environments, emphasising the visual backbone of interactive media. Through guided instruction and real-time demonstrations, participants explored how environment art contributes to storytelling, game mood and player immersion.

Later that month, on March 25 2023 from 14:00 to 18:30, Benilde hosted a second online workshop: Proper Play Testing and Quality Assurance Workshop. Industry-practitioners Miguel Antonio, Ian Martirez and Paul Begonia shared their extensive experience in game QA. The session targeted IEMC students, faculty and external guests, equipping learners with frameworks for rigorous play-testing, bug tracking and quality assurance processes critical to game development. Participants engaged in discussions of test-plan design, user-experience feedback loops and maintaining production quality standards.

Together, these two workshops reinforce Benilde’s commitment to excellence in its Interactive Entertainment and Multimedia Computing programme by pairing creative artistry with system-level discipline. They highlight the academy’s dedication to preparing graduates who are not only imaginative in design but also versed in the rigours of production, testing and the full lifecycle of interactive media development.
