From Farm to Fabric to Fashion: Advocating for Local Fiber Production

The Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) Program recently hosted a highly engaging webinar titled “From Farm to Fabric to Fashion” with Ms. Lorenza Wong on November 22, 2023, via Zoom.

Ms. Wong, a dedicated teacher, weaver, dyer, stitcher, and founder of WE GATHER, shared her insights on 100% local fiber production and demonstrated how regenerative farming can facilitate access to raw materials, revive the artisanal textile industry, and strengthen local economies and communities.

The talk provided Benilde students and faculty with a deeper understanding of sustainable practices in textiles, highlighting the critical link between farming, craft, and fashion in building a more resilient and locally empowered fashion ecosystem.

Through this session, the FDM program continues to foster innovation, sustainability, and community-centered approaches in fashion education.
