Guided by distinguished resource speakers—Mr. John Xandre Baliza, Coordinator of the Interpreting Education Program, and BSLI faculty members Ms. Catherine Joy Villareal and Ms. Bernadette Infanta—the seminar aimed to empower interpreters equipped with knowledge of Filipino Sign Language (FSL). The FSL Interpreter Advocacy seminar was held on November 13, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Augusto Rosario-Gonzalez (ARG) Theater, Benilde Taft Campus.

The session highlighted the vital role of proficient interpreters in fostering confidence and courage to create opportunities and share essential information in support of the Deaf community. It also sought to deepen participants’ understanding of global events and developments affecting the interpreting field.

The seminar saw active engagement from around 80 CSBLIFE students, who participated in discussions and demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening the interpreting profession for the advancement of the Deaf community.
