The 29th Deaf Festival officially opened on November 13, 2023 (Monday), with a Mass and Opening Program held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Augusto Rosario-Gonzalez (ARG) Theater, Benilde Taft Campus.
The celebration began with a solemn Mass officiated by Reverend Fr. Arturo Pestin, O.P., who also led the blessing of the Deaf Festival Exhibit and Bazaar. The program was hosted by Mr. Romulo V. Porral III, Chairperson of the 29th Deaf Festival Committee.
Opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Marian Patricia Bea Francisco, Director of the Center for Deaf Esteem and Formation, followed by a message from Ms. Ana Kristina Arce, Officer-in-Charge Dean of the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies. Representing the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academics, Mr. Angelo Lacson shared an inspiring message that highlighted the importance of inclusion and creativity within the Benildean community.As part of the ceremony, certificates were awarded to recognize participants and contributors from the 28th Deaf Festival.
The event also featured the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Deaf Festival Exhibit and Bazaar, led by Ms. Arce and Mr. Porral. The exhibit showcased outstanding artworks created by Benildean Deaf students, while the bazaar—featuring ten Deaf-owned stalls—offered a platform for Deaf entrepreneurs to promote their products and talents.
The 29th Deaf Festival continues to uphold the spirit of inclusivity, artistry, and empowerment, inviting the Benildean and non-Benildean communities alike to celebrate Deaf culture and creativity throughout the month-long event.
