In a move to further enhance international partnerships and promote inclusive education, representatives from the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde (Benilde) met with Dr. Gerard Buckley, President of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), on March 18, 2024.
The meeting centered on renewing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two institutions and broadening its scope beyond Deaf education. Both parties discussed expanding the agreement to cover collaborative initiatives in the creative industry, business, hospitality, and tourism, reflecting Benilde’s diverse academic portfolio and NTID’s growing engagement with multidisciplinary education for Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners.
In addition to academic program expansion, the proposed MOU renewal will include joint research efforts and resource exchange collaborations, reinforcing both institutions’ commitment to innovation, inclusion, and global engagement.
Furthering this initiative, the Provost of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) the home institution of NTID expressed enthusiasm in welcoming the Benilde delegation on April 25–26, 2024. The delegation will be led by Chancellor Benhur Ong, together with the Deans of the School of New Media Arts (SNMA), the School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (SACP), and the School of Environment and Design (SED).
The visit aims to finalize the renewed agreement and explore new collaborative ventures that align with both institutions’ shared vision of empowering learners through accessible, industry-relevant, and globally connected education.
Through this continued partnership, Benilde and NTID reaffirm their dedication to breaking barriers in education by creating inclusive spaces where creativity, innovation, and accessibility thrive.
