The Packaging Innovation Awards 2023-2024, through the Packaging Design Competition is underway for its last leg this January 2024. Led for the second year by Benilde Industrial Design and co-presented with Fedrigoni Asia Ltd., and Prestige Quality Paper Products, the desgining sprint now features a collaborative packaging innovation objective with students and MSMEs working together.
Through the support from partners Informa Markets with PROPAK Philippines, DTI – OTOP (One Town, One Product) Philippines, and the Philippine Printing Technical Foundation, 13 student teams worked on the opportunity to develop actual packaging that are aesthetically appealing to the global market while being mindful of its impact to the environment. This embeds the value of circularity within the MSMEs which comprises about 99% of our country’s establishments, while also contributing 60% of employment opportunities in the Philippines.
By January 31 to February 2, final prototypes will be exhibited at the Benilde booth at the PROPAK Philippines Convention at the World Trade Center in Pasay, while recognizing and awarding the competition’s runner-up and Grand Champion on the last day, from 10:00-1:00pm.
Winning groups for this year’s competition will receive cash prizes, possible internships and production of winning entries for mainstream use of MSMEs.
Coming form last year’s success, the focus for the second year will be a packaging design sprint focused on food (pasalubong) packaging, and will not only challenge students to create sound structural packaging designs including visual communication quality, but also will immerse and collaborate with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the realization of their packaging ideas into actual mainstream use and production.
