Magic 7/Philippines-Canada Education Consortium

The Embassy of Canada sponsored a culinary competition at the Philippine Culinary Cup for seven State Universities selected by CHED, beginning in 2022. This year, the Canadian Embassy invited the SHRIM Culinary Arts Cluster to support these teams in developing their competition dishes. Each team was paired with two culinary students as mentors, facilitating online coordination to exchange ideas and practice sessions. On July 31, students and faculty from the participating schools gathered at Benilde for two practice sessions with their mentors. The following day, the teams prepared for the competition and enjoyed a cocktail reception at the Residence of the Canadian Ambassador.

The competition took place on August 2 at the SMX, where judges noted the positive impact of the mentoring program on the competitors’ performance in the kitchen. Five teams secured bronze awards, while one team achieved a silver award, showcasing the effectiveness of the collaboration between the mentors and participants.
