The Deaf Performing Arts Program under the SDEAS Center for Deaf Esteem and Formation- Leadership and Involvement Program invited the parents of the Deaf Students – 1st year to participate in the Parent Visual Arts Workshop held at the DAC Contemplation Room last May 18, 2024. The facilitator is Ms. Myra Medrana, the Deaf Performing Arts Trainer.
The Workshop, which has been running for more than a decade, aims to empower the Deaf and their hearing parents to be able to communicate with each other and express their feelings to one another through basic gestures or signs, and facial expressions. It also aims to strengthen the bond between parent and child to hone a supportive relationship with one another. The workshop aims to spread awareness of Deaf culture to the parents to help them better understand their Deaf child and to teach them how to communicate with their child through gestures and Filipino Sign Language.
