On June 27, 2025, GMG Productions staged Come From Away at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater with a groundbreaking Filipino Sign Language (FSL) interpretation that placed Deaf audiences at the heart of the show. This initiative was made possible through close collaboration among GMG Productions, the Benilde Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (Benilde-CEAD), and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS).
Benilde-CEAD FSL researchers Maricris Galang and Yamie Yadan worked with interpreters to provide authentic FSL translation support. SDEAS interpreter John Xander Baliza delivered live interpretation beside the stage, supported by additional interpreters assisting Deaf attendees. The initiative showcased how inclusive design and Deaf-led collaboration enrich the theater experience for Deaf audiences.
